Veteran Administrator to Oversee FRL Growth
FRONT RANGE LEAGUE WELCOMES KEN WILSON AS COMMISSIONER
Veteran League Administrator and Broadcaster Joins FRL
GERING, NE – The Front Range League today announced the appointment of Ken Wilson as the League’s first Commissioner.
Wilson, a resident of Portland Oregon, spent 22 years at the highest levels of sports broadcasting, calling games for the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball. For 20 seasons Wilson called St. Louis Blues hockey, and spent 24 seasons in the booth with several Major League Baseball teams, most recently the Seattle Mariners.
Diving into the world of baseball, Wilson purchased the Zanesville (Ohio) club in the Frontier League in 1997 and moved the team to the suburbs of St. Louis, where they became the River City Rascals. Then he formed a group that founded the Gateway Grizzlies in 2001. In both locations Ken spearheaded the development of new stadium facilities.
In 2008 Wilson became the President of the West Coast League. His mission was to grow the league smartly and increase franchise values for all teams. He also led a group that founded the Great West League in 2015 and became owner and operator of the Portland Pickles before selling that team, which moved to the West Coast League a couple years later. The Great West League teams were later absorbed into the California Collegiate League and still play summer ball.
“I’ve known Ken for more than 20 years and worked directly with him in three different leagues,” FRL President Chuck Heeman said. “I’ve seen him grow leagues, guide teams and be the leader any league needs in order to progress. Ken’s experience in every area of entertainment and fan experience is a great asset to the Front Range League and we all look forward to what the future brings.”
Wilson’s duties include a focus on developing new markets and facilities, assisting teams in operating concepts and execution, arbitrating possible disputes and player/coach issues, and assuring professional operation of the Front Range League as a whole.
“This league is just beginning to touch great things and I’m excited to be a part of it,” Wilson said.
Wilson begins his duties as Commissioner immediately.
The Front Range League is a 501(c)6 non-profit corporation, operated by a Board of Directors representing each team.
